Taxifolinisacatechol-typeflavonoidthatdisplayscardioprotective,neuroprotective,antioxidative,andanticancerchemotherapeuticactivities.Inanimalmodelsofdiabeticcardiomyopathy,taxifolininhibitsmyocyteapoptosis(throughinhibitionofcaspase-3andcaspase-9activation,releaseofcytochromec,andincreasesinJAK/STAT3activation),attenuatingstructuralpathologyandimprovingdiastolicfunction.TaxifolindisplaysneuroprotectivepropertiesinmodelsofAlzheimer’sdiseaseasitpreventsaggregationofamyloid-β(Aβ)proteinsbyreactingwithlysineresidues.ThiscompoundalsoincreasesquinonereductaseactivityanddecreasesNADPHoxidaseactivity,activatingtheantioxidantresponseelement(ARE).Additionally,taxifolininhibitsfattyacidsynthesisandcellgrowthandinducesapoptosis,inhibitingproliferationofcancercellsinvitroandinvivo.
