Description
Glucagon-likepeptide2(GLP-2)isapeptidehormoneprimarilysynthesizedintheintestineandpancreas.GLP-2bindsandactivatestheGLP-2receptor,exhibitingvasodilatory,antihypertensive,antidepressant,andgastrointestinalmotilitymodulatingactivities.Inanimalmodels,GLP-2increasesintestinalbloodflowanddecreasesmeanarterialbloodpressure.GLP-2potentiatesL-typevoltage-gatedCa2+channelsthroughamechanismthatinvolvesactivationofPKA.Additionally,GLP-2decreasesimmobilitytimeinanimalsundergoingtheforcedswimtest.Thispeptidestimulatescellproliferation,inhibitingchemotherapy-inducedmucosalatrophyintheintestines.GLP-2alsodecreasesgastricemptyingandgastrointestinalmotility.
