Description
GinsenosideRg3isatriterpenesaponinfoundinPanaxthatexhibitsneuromodulatory,cognitionenhancing,anti-inflammatory,antioxidative,anti-angiogenic,andanticanceractivities.GinsenosideRg3activatesKCNQ1/Kv7.1K+channelsandtheγ2subunitofGABA-Areceptorsandinhibitstheα10subunitofnicotinicacetylcholinereceptors(nAChRs).Inanimalmodels,ginsenosideRg3decreasesexpressionofTNF-α,IL-1β,andCOX-2inthehippocampus,improvinglearningandmemorydeficits.Invitro,ginsenosideRg3preventsLPS-inducedupregulationofTNF-α,IL-1β,andIL-6levelsanddecreasesactivationofmicroglia.Inotheranimalmodels,thiscompounddecreasesoxidativestressbyincreasingactivityofcatalase,superoxidedismutase(SOD),andlysozymeanddecreasinglevelsofNOandmalondialdehyde.GinsenosideRg3alsoexhibitsanti-angiogenicbenefit,inhibitingVEGF/p38/ERKsignalingtoinhibittubularformationandmigrationofendothelialProgenitorcells.Inosteosarcomacells,thiscompoundincreasedDNAdamagebyinducingstrandbreaksintodouble-strandedDNA.
