Description
6-Thioguanineisanucleotideanalogofguaninethatexhibitsanticancerchemotherapeutic,immunosuppressive,andanti-parasiticactivities.6-ThioguanineisincorporatedintoDNA,alteringstABIlityofthetopoisomeraseII-DNAcleavagecomplexandincreasingDNAfragmentation;theseactionsresultingrowtharrestandinhibitionofproliferationacrossmanycancercelllines.Inacutelymphoblasticleukemia(ALL)cells,6-thioguanineincreasesmitochondrialdysfunctionandgenerationofROS,inducingacytotoxiceffect.Inotherinvitromodels,6-thioguaninedecreasesexpressionofTNF-relatedapoptosis-inducingligand(TRAIL).Additionally,thiscompoundinhibitsgrowthofToxoplasmagondii.
