Description
Veratramine is a steroidal alkaloid found in species of Veratrum and Fritillaria. Veratramine inhibits the hedgehog signaling pathway in vitro, indicating potential anticancer chemotherapeutic benefit. Veratramine also exhibits neuromodulatory and antihypertensive activities. In frontal cortex slices, veratramine evokes release of 5-HT and also inhibits reuptake of 5-HT. In hypertensive rats, oral veratramine decreases blood pressure.
