Description
VeratridineisanalkaloidfromtheplantLiliaceaethathasbeenshowntoexhibitsynergisticanti-tumoreffectsincombinationwithchemotherapeuticdrugs.IthasbeenfoundtoupregulatetheUbiquitin-like-domain-containingproteinUBXN2Ainthecytoplasm,whichtheninducescelldeath.Inotherstudies,Veratridinebindstoneurotoxinreceptorsite2onvoltage-gatedsodiumchannels,whichtheninhibitsinactivationofthechannel.Thisbindingsiteisalsothetargetforvariousantiepilepticdrugs.Anincreaseinthenon-inactivatingsodiumcurrenthasbeenassociatedwithmutationsonthevoltage-gatedsodiumchannelthatcauseepilepsy.
