Description

VerbascosideisaphenylpropanoidfoundinavarietyofspeciesofCastilleja,Verbena,andVerbascum.Verbascosidedisplaysanti-inflammatory,analgesic,antioxidative,andantithromboticpropertiesinavarietyofcellularandanimalmodels.Invitro,verbascosideinhibitsarachidonicacid-andADP-inducedplateletaggregationaswellasdipeptidylpeptidase4(DPP4)andprolyloligopeptidaseactivity.Invivo,verbascosidedecreaseslevelsofBax,Bcl-2,NF-κB,iNOS,andmyeloperoxidase,showinganti-inflammatorybenefitinamodelofperiodontitis.Additionally,thiscompoundinhibitsmechanicalpainintwodifferentanimalmodelsofhyperalgesia.VerbascosidemayalsobeaninhibitorofPKC.
