Tocotrienolscontainanarenering,achromanolring,andanisoprenoidtail;alltocotrienolcompoundscontainamethylgrouponC8ofthearenering.α-Tocotrienolcontainstwoadditionalmethylgroupsarrangedaroundthearenering,positionedparaandorthotoC8.TocotrienolsaremembersofthevitaminEfamily,typicallyfoundinvegetableoils,nuts,andgrains.Alltocotrienolsexhibitstrongantioxidative,anti-angiogenic,anticancer,andanti-hyperlipidemicqualities,althoughα-Tocotrienoldisplaysthestrongestantioxidativecapacity.Tocopherols,commonsubstituentsofover-the-countervitaminEsupplements,interferewithtocotrienolactivityandshowweakerantioxidativeeffects.TocotrienolsexhibitsignificantrADIcalrecyclingABIlitiesincellularmodelsoflipidperoxidationandoxidativedamageandsuppressHMG-CoAreductaseactivity.Invitro,thesecompoundsinduceapoptosisthroughinhibitionofId1,EGFR,andNF-κB;theyalsoinhibitvesselformationandproliferationinaorticendothelialcells.
