Description
Allyldisulfideisanorganosulfuroriginallyfoundingarlicthatexhibitsantioxidative,antiviral,neuroprotective,anti-parasitic,anticancer,andanti-hyperlipidemicactivities.AllyldisulfideinducesphaseIIenzymes,inhibitslipidperoxidation,andactsasarADIcalscavenger.Invitro,allyldisulfideinhibitsproliferationofHIV-1,andinvivo,itsuppressesgrowthofGyrodactylus.Inothercellularmodels,allyldisulfideinhibits4α-methyloxidase,suppressingcholesterolsynthesis.InDrosophilamodelsofParkinson’sdisease,thiscompounddecreasesα-synucleinaggregate-inducedneuronaldeath.Inleukemiacells,allyldisulfideinducesG2/Mphasecellcyclearrestandapoptosis,increaseslevelsofp21,releaseofcytochromec,andactivationofcaspase3andPARP,anddecreasesactivationofNF-κB.
