AsiaticacidisatriterpeneaglyconeoriginallyfoundinCentella;itexhibitscardioprotective,hepatoprotective,anti-inflammatory,antioxidative,antihypertensive,anticancer,anti-fibrotic,andanti-osteoporoticactivities.Invitroandinvivo,asiaticacidinhibitsTGF-β1-inducedandoverload-inducedcardiachypertrophy,decreasingproductionofTGF-β1andactivationofNF-κB,ERK1/2,andp38MAPK.Inhighfatdiet-fedrats,asiaticaciddecreasesexpressionofNF-κB,p38MAPK,IL-1β,ROS,IL-6,andTNF-αandincreasesactivityofglutathioneperoxidaseandcatalase,preventinghepaticsteatosis.Additionally,asiaticacidinhibitsL-NAME-inducedhypertension,increasinglevelsofNOandimprovingvascularfunction.Inmultiplemyelomacells,thiscompoundinducesG2/Mphasecellcyclearrest,decreasesexpressionofFAK,andinhibitscellproliferation.AsiaticacidinhibitsADIpogenesis,suppressesactivationofG3PDH,andmodulatesdifferentiationinbonemarrowstromalcells.Inanimalmodelsoffibrosis,thiscompounddecreasestubularinjuryandfibroblastactivationbysuppressingactivationofSmad2/3,regulatingPPARγactivation,anddecreasinglevelsofα-SMAandTGF-β1.
