AstragalosideIVisanactivecompoundfoundinAstragalusmembranaceusthatexhibitscardioprotective,antioxidative,andpro-angiogenicactivities.AstragalosideIVpreventsLPS-inducedincreasesinCa2+,activationofCaNandGATA-4,andnuclearfactorofactivatedTcells3(NFAT3)translocation,inhibitingcardiachypertrophy.Additionally,astragalosideIVdecreasesexpressionofmatrixmetalloproteinase9(MMP-9)andpreventsischemia/reperfusion-inducedmyocardialinfarctionandmyocardialapoptosisinanimalmodels.Inotheranimals,astragalosideIVpreventedincreasesinROS,pro-inflammatorycytokines,anddownregulationofsuperoxidedismutase(SOD),glutathione,andtauphosphorylationinducedbyexperimentalautoimmuneencephalitis(EAE);thiscompoundalsopreventsrelateddecreasesintheBcl-2/BaxratioandchangesinTcelldifferentiationandmigration.Inendothelialcells,astragalosideIVactivatesJAK/STATandERK1/2signalingandupregulatesproductionofeNOSandNO,promotingtube/vesselformation.
