Description
BaicalinisaflavonefoundinScutellariathatexhibitsantiviral,antioxidative,antihypertensive,cardioprotective,anti-inflammatory,andanticancerchemotherapeuticactivities.Baicalininhibitsprolyloligopeptidase.Baicalinalsoinhibitsneuraminidase,preventinginfluenzainfection.Inanimalmodelsofhypoxia-inducedpulmonaryarterialhypertension,baicalindecreasessystolicbloodpressure,inhibitsventricularremodeling,andsuppressesproliferationofpulmonaryarterysmoothmusclecells.Inanimalmodelsofcerebralhemorrhage,baicalindecreasesdevelopmentofedemaandsuppressesexpressionofmatrixmetalloproteinase9(MMP9),IL-6,andIL-1β.Additionally,baicalininhibitsUV-inducedskinagingresponsesinfibroblastsandinhibitscellandtumorgrowthinmodelsofacutemyelogenousleukemia(AML).
