Description

T2toxinisatrichothecenemycotoxininitiallyproducedbyspeciesofFusarium.T2toxinisoftenfoundingrainsandgrainproductssuchascerealsandbreads.T2toxinmayactasananticoagulantatlowdoses,decreasingfibrinolyticandcoagulantsignalingpathways.Invivo,T2toxinalterspermeABIlityoftheblood-brainbarrier(BBB).Inthebrainandspleen,T2toxininducesoxidativestressbydecreasinglevelsofglutathioneandincreasinglevelsofROSandlipidperoxidation;italsodecreasesexpressionoftissueinhibitorofmetalloproteinase1(TIMP-1)andincreasesexpressionofmatrixmetalloproteinase9(MMP9),TNF-α,IL-1β,andIL-6.Invitro,T2toxinalterssteroidogenesisbyinhibitingproductionoffollicular-stimulatinghormone(FSH)andprogesteroneandinhibitingthestimulatoryeffectsofIFG-1.
