Description
Calcitoningene-relatedpeptide(CGRP)isanendogenousneuropeptidethatexhibitsanti-inflammatory,anti-resorptive,anxiogenic,neuroprotective,andpro-angiogenicactivities.Inanimalmodelsofliveryinjury,CGRPdisplaysprotectivebenefit,decreasingpro-inflammatorycytokinelevels.CGRPalsostimulatesproliferationofosteoblasts.Inanimalsundergoingtestinginanelevatedplusmaze,CGRPdecreasetimespentinopenarms.Thispeptideinhibitsretinalapoptosisinretinalcellsinanimalmodelsofcoronaryarteryocclusion.Additionally,CGRPincreasesexpressionofCD31,VEGF-A,FGF,andTGF-β1,increasingcapillarydensityinvitroandinanimalmodelsofhindlimbischemia.
