Description
Benfotiamineisasynthetic,lipid-solublederivativeoftheBvitaminthiamine.Benfotiamineexhibitsantinociceptive,neuroprotective,andanti-inflammatoryactivities.Inanimalmodels,benfotiamineinhibitspainsignalinginaprostaticacidphosphatase-dependentmanner.Invitro,benfotiaminedecreasesproductionofamyloid-β(Aβ)anddownregulatesactivityofglycogensynthasekinase3(GSK3).Inmacrophages,thiscompoundinhibitsLPS-inducedactivationofphospholipaseA2(PLA2),releaseofleukotrienes,prostaglandins,andthromboxaneB2(TxB2),andalsosuppressesoxidativestress.Benfotiaminealsodecreasesoxidativestressinducedbystreptozocininanimalmodels.
