Description
Dibenzoylmethane(DBM)isanaromatic1,3-diketoneacetylacetonederivativethatisoriginallyfoundinGlycyrrhiza(Licorice).DBMderivativesareveryphotostableandareoftenusedassunscreencomponents;theyarealsocytoprotective.DBMitselfexhibitsanti-inflammatory,cytoprotective,anticancerchemotherapeutic,andchemopreventiveactivities.DBMinducesG2/Mphasecellcyclearrestanddownregulatesexpressionofphospho-rb,cyclinD1,andcyclinA,inhibitingcellproliferationandtumorgrowthinprostatecancermodels;thiscompoundalsoinhibitsthedevelopmentofintestinaladenomainvivo.Inothermodels,DBMactivatesNrf2-dependentphaseIIenzymes,inhibitingDNAadductformation;italsopreventsTNF-inducedactivationofNF-κB.
