Description
Vindolineisasemi-syntheticvincaalkaloidoriginallyfoundinCatharanthusthatexhibitsanti-diabeticandantacidactivities;itisanintermediateinthesynthesisofvinblastine.Unlikeothervincaalkaloids,vindolineisonlyweaklycytotoxic,bindingpoorlytotubulin.Vindolineincreasesglucose-stimulatedinsulinreleaseandinhibitsKv2.1K+channels,decreasingoutwardK+currentandloweringbloodglucose,Hb1Ac,andtriglyceridelevelsinanimalmodelsofdiabetes.VindolinealsoinhibitsH+/K+ATPases,potentiallydecreasinggastricacidsecretion.
