TriptolideisaditerpenoidepoxideoriginallyfoundinTripterygiumthatexhibitsanticancerchemotherapeutic,anti-angiogenic,antinociceptive,anti-inflammatory,anti-fibrotic,andimmunosuppressiveactivities.Triptolideinducesapoptosisanddecreasesβ-cateninexpressioninbreastcancercells.Incellularandanimalmodelsofpancreaticcancer,triptolideinhibitscellproliferationandxenograftgrowth,downregulatesexpressionofCOX-2andVEGF,andsuppressescellmigrationandtubeformation.Inanimalmodels,chronicadmiNISTrationoftriptolidedecreasesactivationofglialcellsandphosphorylationofMAPKs,suppressingneuropathicpain.Additionally,triptolidedecreasesexpressionofIL-17andSTAT3andsuppressesneutrophilmigration,displayinghepatoprotectivebenefitinanimalmodelsofliverischemia/reperfusioninjury.Triptolidealsopreventsthedevelopmentofcardiacfibrosisandimprovescardiacfunctioninanimalmodelsofchronicheartfailure.
