Description
AK-1 is an inhibitor of sirtuin 2 (SIRT2); sirtuins are considered class III histone deacetylases (HDACs). AK-1 exhibits neuroprotective and anticancer activities. This compound prevents some hippocampal neurodegeneration in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease. AK-1 also induces cell cycle arrest in colon carcinoma cells by downregulating expression of Snail.
