Description
Pentoxifyllineisaxanthinederivativethatexhibitsanti-inflammatory,cardioprotective,antithrombotic,analgesic,andanti-fibroticactivities.Pentoxifyllineisclinicallyusedtotreatintermittentclaudication,peripheralvasculardisease,andneuropathies.Pentoxifyllineisanon-selectiveinhibitorofphosphodiesterases(PDEs)thatincreasescAMPlevelsandactivatesPKA;italsoinhibitsadenosineA2receptors.Invitro,pentoxifyllinedecreasesphosphorylationofIκBαandsuppressesactivityofNFκB.Thiscompoundalsoinhibitsinflammation-inducedhyperalgesiaandseparately,suppressesfibrin-inducedepithelial-to-mesenchymaltransition(EMT)andthedevelopmentoffibrosisinanimalmodels.
