Description

BaccatinIIIisaditerpenefoundinTaxusandvariousfungalorganismsthatexhibitsimmunomodulatoryandanticancerchemotherapeuticactivities.Unlikemosttaxanes,baccatinIIIdoesnotbindtubulin;itisprimarilyusedinthesynthesisoftaxol.Inanimalmodelsofbreastcancerandcoloncancer,baccatinIIIdecreasestumorgrowthbysuppressingaccumulationofmyeloid-derivedsuppressorcells.Inothervariouscancercelllines,thiscompoundinducesapoptosisandinhibitsproliferationinacaspase10-dependentmanner.Inbonemarrowdendriticcells,baccatinIIIincreasesMHCclassIandIIantigenpresentation;similarly,itincreasescytotoxicTlymphocyteresponsesinvivo.
