Description
GambogicacidisaxanthonefoundintheresinoftheGarciniahanburyitreeandhasshownconsiderableanticancerchemotherapeutic,chemopreventive,andanti-angiogenicactivitiesinbothinvitroandinvivostudies.Gambogicacidinhibitscellulargrowthandinducesapoptosisthroughavarietyofmechanisms.ThiscompoundinducesLRIG1upregulationandEGFRdegradationtoinactivateAktsignaling.Additionally,gambogicacidalsoinhibitsNF-κBsignalingthroughinteractionwiththetransferrinreceptor,causingreductionofc-MYCexpression,inhibitionoftelomeraseactivityandmRNAproduction,anddisruptionofmitochondrialoutermembranepotential.
