Description
Cefoperazone is a third generation β-lactam cephalosporin antibiotic. Cefoperazone exhibits antibacterial efficacy against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, inhibiting penicillin binding proteins to prevent peptidoglycan synthesis and bacterial cell wall formation. Cefoperazone also inhibits mammalian mRNA splicing and is often given in combination with the β-lactamase sulbactam.
