Description
Sulfamethoxazole is a sulfonamide antibiotic that competitively inhibits PABA, preventing bacterial production of folic acid and synthesis of DNA. Sulfamethoxazole displays antibacterial activity against Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Escherichia, Haemophilus, and Pneumocystis.
