Description
S-(N-Phenylbutylthiocarbamoyl)-glutathione(PBITC)isaconjugateofphenylbutylisothiocyanateandglutathione.IsothiocyanatesaretypicallyfoundinplantsoftheBrassicaceaefamily,includingbroccoli,cabbage,andrADIsh.Isothiocyanatesarebestknownfortheirantioxidative,anticancerchemotherapeutic,chemopreventive,anti-angiogenic,andantibioticproperties.Invitro,PBITCincreasescaspase3activityandcleavageofpoly(ADP)-ribosepolymerase(PARP),inducingcaspase-mediatedapoptosis.ThiscompounddecreasesoxidationofcarcinogenNNKandincreasesactivityofNADPH:quinoneoxidoreductaseandglutathione-S-transferaseinvitroandinvivo.
