Description
Rosemarinicacidisacaffeicacidesterfoundinmanyplants,includingMelissa,Salvia,Ocimum,Rosmarinus,andOriganum.Rosemarinicacidexhibitsantidepressant,neuroprotective,anti-inflammatory,anti-allergic,anti-angiogenic,anti-fibrotic,andchemopreventiveactivities.RosemarinicacidinhibitsGABAtransaminaseanddecreasesimmobilitytimeinanimalsundergoingtheforcedswimtest.Additionally,rosemarinicacidinhibitsaggregationofamyloid-β(Aβ)peptides,delayingprogressionofAlzheimer’sdiseaseinvivo.InanimalmodelsofOVA-inducedallergy,rosemarinicaciddecreaseslevelsofIgE,IL-6,IL-1β,andTNF-α,preventsexpressionofCOX-2,andsuppressesinfiltrationbymastcellsandeosinophils.RosemarinicacidalsoinhibitstheformationofDMBA-inducedoraltumorsinanimalmodels.Thiscompoundinhibitstheproliferationofhepaticstellatecells,decreasinglevelsofα-SMA,CTGF,andTGF-β1andpreventingCCL4-inducedhepaticfibrosis.RosemarinicacidalsoinhibitsFyn,aSrcfamilykinaseinvolvedinT-cellsignaling.Invitro,rosemarinicaciddecreaseslevelsofROS,VEGF,andIL-8,suppressingcellularproliferation,migration,adhesion,andtubeformation.
