SaikosaponinAisatriterpenesaponinfoundinBupleurumthatexhibitsanti-inflammatory,analgesic,neuromodulatory,anticancer,andimmunosuppressiveactivities.SaikosaponinAdecreasesproductionofTNF-α,IL-1β,andIL-2andincreasesmechanicalwithdrawalthresholdsandthermalwithdrawalthresholdsinanimalmodelsofchronicconstructiveinjury.SaikosaponinAalsodecreasesself-admiNISTrationofcocaineandmorphine.Incoloncarcinomacells,saikosaponinAcausesactivationofcaspases2,3,8,and9andPARP,inducesapoptosis,anddecreasesexpressionofBcl-2andXIAP.Additionally,thiscompoundinhibitstheproliferationandactivationofConA-treatedTcells,inducingG0/G1phasecellcyclearrestanddecreasingexpressionofTNF-α,IL-2,andIFN-γ.
