Description
SarcophineisamarinecembranoidditerpenefoundintheRedSeasoftcoralSarcophytonglaucum.Sarcophineanditssyntheticderivative,sarcophine-diol,exhibitchemopreventiveactivity.Invivo,sarcophineinhibitsskincarcinogenesisinducedbyNOR-1andTPA.SarcophinealsodecreasesmembranepermeABIlitytowardsCa2+,increasesdegradationofPLAandPLC,anddecreaseslevelsofCOX-2,inhibitingthetumorformationinmelanomamodels.Inbreastcancerandprostatecancercelllines,sarcophineinhibitscellmigration.Sarcophinemayalsoinhibitphosphofructokinase.
