Description
Atomoxetinehydrochloride,alsoknownastomoxetinehydrochloride,isacommonlyprescribedtreatmentforavarietyofADHDsubtypes.Thiscompoundalsodisplaysminorantidepressantactivity,butisnotactiveenoughofitsowntowarrantprescriptionuseasatreatmentfordepression.Atomoxetinehydrochlorideinhibitsnorepinephrinetransporters(NET),increasingnorepinephrineanddopaminelevels,andinhibitsSEROtonintransporters(SERT)andN-methylD-aspartate(NMDA)receptorstoalesserdegree.Perhapsduetoitsmodulationofneurotransmitters,atomoxetineisalsocurrentlybeingstudiedasapotentialrelapsepreventiontherapyinrecentlyabstinentsubstanceabusesubjects.
