CapsaicinisanagoNISToftransientreceptorpotentialvanilloid(TRPV)channelsthatwasoriginallyfoundinpeppersoftheCapsicumgenus.Capsaicinexhibitsanalgesic,anti-inflammatory,anti-obesity,andanticancerchemotherapeuticactivity.Capsaicinalsodisplaysbronchoconstrictiveactivityandisusedasanaturalirritant.Invivo,thiscompounddesensitizesTRPV1channels,inhibitingthermalandmechanicalhyperalgesia.Inotheranimalmodels,capsaicininhibitsADIpogenesis,decreasesmetabolicdysregulation,activatesPPARα,andsuppressesweightgainandfatdeposition.CapsaicinalsoinducesapoptosisviaROSanddisruptionofthemitochondrialmembraneandinhibitstumorgrowthincellularandanimalmodelsofprostatecancer,breastcancer,pancreaticcancer,andhepatocellularcarcinoma.Thismixturecontainscapsaicin,≥65%,dihydrocapsaicin,~20%,andnordihydrocapsaicin,~4%.
