Thisproductisamixtureofbleomycinsulfatesalts;bleomycinA2ispictured.BleomycinisananticancerchemotherapeuticthatbindsDNAandinducesDNAcleavageandstrandbreaks;itishighlytoxic.BleomycinA5isclinicallyusedtotreatlymphomas,squamouscellcarcinomas,andtesticularcancer.Additionally,thiscompoundinducesapoptosis,alterscellcycleregulation,inhibitsproliferation,anddecreasestumorsizeincellularandanimalmodelsofhemangioma.BleomycinA2inhibitsviralreproductionofhumanpapillomavirus.BleomycinA2alsocleavesDNAat5’-GTsequences(includingintelomeres)andinducestRNAcleavage.Bleomycinmayalsoinhibitthioredoxinreductase.
