Description

Fenofibrateisafibricacidderivativefibratecompoundthatexhibitsanti-hyperlipidemic,anti-fibrotic,andanticancerchemotherapeuticactivities.FenofibrateactivatesPPARα,stimulatinglipoproteinlipaseandincreasinglipolysis;thisresultsindecreasesinoveralltriglyceride,VLDL,andLDLlevelsaswellasincreasesinHDLlevels.Fenofibratedecreasesoxidativestress-inducedexpressionofα-SMA,TGF-β1,IL-6,collagen-1,andTNF-α,preventingCCL4-inducedhepaticfibrosis.FenofibratealsoupregulatesexpressionofBad,downregulatesexpressionofBcl-xl,survivin,cyclinD1,andCDK4,activatescaspase-3andNF-κB,andinducesG0/G1phasecellcyclearrestinbreastcancercells,suppressingcellandtumorgrowthinbothinvitroandinvivomodels.
