Description
Glyciteinisanaglyconeisoflavonefoundinsoyandredclover;itexhibitsawidevarietyofbeneficialproperties,includingneuroprotective,antioxidative,anticancer,anti-osteoporotic,andanti-atheroscleroticactivities.Thiscompoundalsoactsasaphytoestrogen.GlyciteininhibitsgenerationofROS,increasesexpressionofhemeoxygenase-1(HO-1)andNADPHquinonereductase,andincreasesNrf2-relatedantioxidativesignaling.Invitro,glyciteindownregulatesexpressionofmatrixmetalloproteinases3and9,preventinginvasionofgliomacells.Additionally,thiscompoundincreasesERK1/2activityanddecreasescellproliferationinprostatecells.Inaorticsmoothmusclecells,glyciteininhibitsDNAsynthesisandcellproliferation,attenuatingapathologythatoccursinatherosclerosis.IncellularmodelsofAlzheimer’sdisease,glyciteinalsobindstoamyloid-β(Aβ)monomers,oligomers,andfibrils,destABIlizingAβaggregatesandpreventingfibrilassembly.Glyciteinalsoaffectsboneformation,inhibitingosteoclastgenerationanddecreasingexpressionofIL-6andRANKLinbonemarrow-derivedosteoclasts.
