Description

Hesperetinisaphytoestrogenandflavanonefoundincitrusplantsthatexhibitsanalgesic,antinociceptive,anti-inflammatory,antioxidative,cardioprotective,anti-fibrotic,anticancer,andanti-metastaticactivities.HesperetininhibitsmechanicalandthermalhyperalgesiaandallodyniaanddecreasesproductionofIL-6,IL-1β,andTNF-αinanimalmodels.Invitro,hesperetindecreasesCa2+influxbyinhibitingL-typeCa2+channels,inducingvasorelaxation.Additionally,hesperetinincreasesexpressionofcatalase,glutathione,superoxidedismutase,andglutathioneperoxidaseanddecreasesexpressionoflipidperoxidaseinvivo.Inotheranimalmodels,thiscompoundpreventscardiachypertrophy,cardiacdysfunction,andfibrosis.HesperetinalsoactivatesNotch1signaling,inducesdifferentiation,andinhibitscellmigrationandinvasioninanaplasticthyroidcancercells.Inbreastcancercells,thiscompounddecreasesthemitochondrialmembranepotentialandincreasescytochromecrelease,caspase7activation,andPARPcleavage,inducingapoptosis.
