Description
Indole-3-carbinolisaglucosinolateoriginallyfoundincruciferousvegetablesthatexhibitsanti-hyperlipidemic,anti-fibrotic,neuroprotective,anti-angiogenic,anti-metastatic,andanticancerchemotherapeuticactivities.Indole-3-carbinolinhibitsADIpogenesisinvitroandinvivoandalsosuppressesadipocytedifferentiationandexpressionofCEBP,PPARγ,andtriglycerides.Indole-3-carbinolalsoinhibitstheformationofamyloid-β(Aβ)fibrilsincellularmodelsofAlzheimer’sdisease.Incellularandanimalmodelsofnasopharyngealcarcinoma,indole-3-carbinolinhibitscellproliferation,decreasestumorgrowth,inducesapoptosis,anddecreasesPI3K/Aktsignaling.Inotheranimalmodels,thiscompoundinduceshepaticstellatecellapoptosis,increasestheBax:Bcl-2ratio,promotesdegradationoftheextracellularmatrix,andpreventsthedevelopmentoffibrosis.Additionally,indole-3-carbinolinhibitscellmigrationandinvasionanddecreasesexpressionofMCP-2andsignalingbyERKinbreastcancercells.Inendothelialcells,thiscompoundinhibitstubeformation.
