Description
L-AlliinisacysteinederivativefoundinAllium;itexhibitsanti-inflammatory,neuromodulatory,anti-diabetic,anti-hyperlipidemic,antioxidative,cardioprotective,andanti-angiogenicactivities.InADIpocytes,L-alliininhibitsLPS-stimulatedactivationofERK1/2andincreasesininflammatorysignaling.Inanimalmodelsofmyocardialinfarction,L-alliinincreasesactivityofsuperoxidedismutase,glutathioneperoxidase,catalase,andglutathione-S-transferase.L-AlliinalsoactivatesNMDA-RsubunitsNR2AandNR2B.Indiabeticrats,thiscompounddecreaseslevelsofLDL,VLDL,glucose,triglycerides,totalcholesterol,andtotallipids.Additionally,L-alliininhibitsVEGF-inducedangiogenesisandFGF2andVEGFsecretioninfibrosarcomacells.
