Description
Budesonideisacorticosteroidwithstrongglucocorticoidandweakmineralocorticoidcharacteristics.Budesonideexhibitsanti-inflammatoryandanti-asthmaactivitiesandisusedclinicallytotreatCrohn’sdisease,inflammatoryboweldisease(IBD),andchronicobstructivepulmonarydisorder(COPD).Inanimalmodels,budesonideinducespulmonaryvasoconstriction.BudesonideinhibitsexpressionofIL-32inlungsandimprovespulmonaryfunctioninanimalmodelsofcigarettesmoking-inducedCOPD.Additionally,budesonidedecreasesTGF-β1-inducedVEGFsecretionandactivationofERKandSmad3inlungfibroblasts.BudesonidealsoinducesDNAhypermethylation.
