Description
Leu-enkephalinisanendogenousopioidpeptidethatactsasanagoNISTatμ-opioidreceptors(μORs)andδ-opioidreceptors(δORs).Met-enkephalinexhibitsneuromodulatory,antinociceptive/analgesic,andgastrointestinalmotilitymodulatingactivities.Likeotherendogenousopioids,leu-enkephalinmodulatesexpressionofopioidreceptorsandplaysaroleinreward/reinforcementsignaling.Leu-enkephalinincreasespainthresholdsinvivoandinhibitsgastrointestinalmusclecontractilityinotheranimalmodels,inhibitingmotilityandgastricemptying.
