Disulfiramisaninhibitorofaldehydedehydrogenasethatisclinicallyusedtotreatchronicalcoholdependence.Disulfirampreventscompletemetabolismofalcohol,allowingacetaldehydetobuildup.Disulfiramalsoexhibitsanticancerandanti-parasiticactivities.Thiscompoundinhibitsthe26Sproteasome,activatingcaspases3and7andinducingapoptosisinchroniclymphocyticleukemia(CLL),non-smallcelllungcancer(NSCLC),ovariancancer,andbreastcancercells.DisulfiramalsoinhibitsMGMT,potentiallyenhancingtheefficacyofotherco-admiNISTeredchemotherapeutics.Additionally,disulfiraminhibitsthegrowthofprotozoansTrichomonasandTritrichomonas.
