Daidzeinisaphytoestrogenandisoflavoneinitiallyfoundinvariousplantsources,includingsoybeans.Daidzeinexhibitspro-fibrotic,anti-inflammatory,anticancerchemotherapeutic,neuroprotective,immunomodulatory,anti-osteoporotic,anti-resorptive,anti-obesity,andantioxidativeactivities.DaidzeinincreasescollagensynthesisandinhibitscollagendegradationinfibroblastsbyactivatingTGF-β/Smadsignaling.Invivo,daidzeindecreasesTNF-α-inducedlunginflammation,expressionofCxcl2,activationofNF-κB,andactivityofPARP-1.Inhepaticcancercells,daidzeininducesapoptosis,increasescytochromecreleaseandactivationofcaspases3and9,anddecreasescellularproliferation.Inotherinvitromodels,daidzeinincreasesneuritegrowthbyincreasingactivityofPKC,ERK,andSrc.Invivo,daidzeindecreasesovariectomy-inducedincreasesinCD4+Tcelllevels;italsoincreasesCD28+Tcelllevels,decreasesRANKLexpression,andsuppressesosteoclastformation.ThiscompoundinhibitsADIpogenicdifferentiationbyincreasinglipolysisinvitro.Invivo,daidzeinincreaseslevelsofsuperoxidedismutase,catalase,glutathione,glutathioneperoxidase,andglutathione-S-transferase,inhibitingDMBA-inducedbreastcancerdevelopment.
