Description
Okadaicacidisadiarrheticshellfishtoxininitiallyproducedbydinoflagellatesandseasponges;itexhibitsneurotoxicandanticanceractivities.Okadaicacidinhibitsproteinphosphatases1and2A(PP1,PP2A).InanimalmodelsofAlzheimer’sdisease,okadaicacidincreasesphosphorylationoftauprotein.InADIpocytes,thiscompoundstimulateslipolysisbyincreasingphosphorylationofperilipinAandB.InTcellleukemiacells,okadaicacidinducesG1phasecellcyclearrest,decreasesexpressionofcyclinD2,CDK4,CDK6,Bcl-2,Bcl-xl,andXIAP,increasesexpressionofp21andp27,activatescaspases,andinhibitscellgrowth.
