Description
Cortistatin-14isanendogenousneuropeptiderelatedtosomatostatinthatbindsandactivatessomatostatinandghrelinreceptors,inhibitingsecretionofgrowthhormoneandinsulin.Cortistatin-14exhibitsanticonvulsant/antiepileptic,anti-inflammatory,andantinociceptiveactivities.Inanimalmodels,cortistatin-14decreasesseizureduration.Inmacrophages,thispeptideinhibitsproductionofIL-1β.Similarly,cortistatin-14decreasescapsaicin-inducedreleaseofCGRPinrattracheaandsuppressescarrageenan-inducededemainotheranimalmodels.
