Description
Cysteamineisanaminothiolthatexhibitsantioxidative,anti-metastatic,antidepressant,neuromodulatory,andantipsychoticactivities.Cysteamineisusedinresearchmodelstoinduceulcerformation;clinically,ittreatscystinosisandotherdisordersofcysteineexcretion.CysteamineisalsoacomponentusedtoformcoenzymeA(CoA).Inanimalmodelsofpancreaticcancer,cysteaminedecreasesactivityofmatrixmetalloproteinases(MMPs)andsuppressesmetastasis.CysteaminedecreasesimmobilitytimeinanimalsundergoingtheforcedswimtestandtailsUSPensiontestandincreaseslevelsofBDNF.Thiscompoundalsodisplayspotentialbenefitinpre-clinicalmodelsofschizophrenia.Additionally,cysteamineimprovesmotordeficitsandincreasessurvivalinanimalmodelsofHuntington’sdisease.
