Description
Pituitaryadenylatecyclase-activatingpolypeptide(PACAP)stimulatescAMPproductionintheanteriorpituitary.PACAPandPACAP-relatedpeptide(PRP)regulateimmunefunctionanddisplayincreasesinexpressionwhenhostsarechallengedwithbacterialpathogens.PACAPandPRPalsocontrolexpressionofreproductivehormonessuchasfollicle-stimulatinghormone(FSH)andluteinizinghormone(LH).Additionally,PACAPandPRPbindthePAC1receptorandVPAC1/2receptors.PACAPitselfinhibitsK+amplitudeofdelayedrectifierK+channels,exhibitinganti-apoptoticactivityincerebellargranulecells.
