Description
Dimethylfumarateisafumaricacidmethylesterthatisclinicallyusedtotreatpsoriasisandunderinvestigationasapotentialtreatmentformultiplesclerosis(MS).Dimethylfumarateexhibitsimmunomodulatory,antioxidative,andanti-inflammatoryactivities.Invitro,dimethylfumarateincreasesexpressionofhemeoxygenase1(HO-1)andNrf2anddecreasesproliferationofTcellsandreleaseofinflammatorycytokines.Dimethylfumarateactivatesnicotinicacetylcholinereceptors(nAChRs),althoughtherelevanceofthisactivityisunknown.Previously,thiscompoundhasbeenusedasarADIosensitizer.Recently,dimethylfumaratehasdisplayedefficacyinmodelsofmultiplesclerosis,decreasingrelapseandimprovingneurologicoutcomes.
