Description
HarringtonineisacephalotaxinealkaloidoriginallyfoundinCephalotaxushainanensisLi;itexhibitsantiviralandanticanceractivities.Harringtonineimmobilizesinitiatedribosomes,inhibitingproteintranslationbybindingtheAsiteofthe60Sribosomalsubunitandpreventingaminoacyl-tRNAbinding.Harringtonineinhibitschikungunyavirusinfection,suppressingreplication,RNAproduction,andviralproteinexpression.Alone,harringtoninedownregulatesproductionofMcl-1,increasescleavageofPARP,andinhibitscellgrowthinacutepromyelocyticleukemia(APL)cells.Additionally,thiscompoundimprovestheefficacyofco-admiNISTeredchemotherapeuticcompounds,furtherinhibitingproliferationandinducingapoptosisinleukemiacells.
