Description
Myristicinisanallylbenzenefoundinspicesandumbelliferousplants.Myristicinexhibitsanticancer,anti-inflammatory,andantibioticactivities.Inleukemiacells,myristicindecreasesthemitochondrialmembranepotentialandincreasescytochromecreleaseandactivationofcaspase3andPARP,inducingapoptosis.Inalveolarepithelialcells,myristicindecreasesIL-1β-inducedproductionofIL-6.MyristicinalsoexhibitsantibacterialandantifungalefficacyagainstClostridium,Enterococcus,Candida,Eubacterium,andPeptostreptococcus.Athighdoses,myristicinmaybeneurotoxic.
