Description
Moxifloxacinisafluoroquinoloneantibioticcommonlyusedtotreatocularinfectionssuchasbacterialconjunctivitisaswellassinusandlunginfectionssuchaspneumonia.Moxifloxacindisplaysantibacterialefficacyagainstbothgramnegativeandgrampositivebacteria,preventingDNAsynthesisinbacterialpathogensbyinhibitingtopoisomeraseIVandbacterialDNAgyrase.ThiscompoundiscurrentlybeingexaminedasaconjunctivetherapywithanticanceragentsagainstseveralformsofcancerduetoitstopoisomeraseIIinhibition.Combiningmoxifloxacinwithanticanceragentsyieldsacytotoxicdrugsparingeffectduetothesynergismofthemechanismsofactionbetweenmoxifloxacinandtheanticancerdrugs.
