Description
Emodinisananthraquinonefoundinseveralsources,includingthealoeplant,sennaleaves,andrhubarbrhizomes.Emodinismostcommonlyknownforitsstimulant-laxativeaction,butalsoshowsantioxidative,anticancerchemotherapeutic,andanti-angiogenicactivity.ThiscompoundactivatesCFTRCl-channelsinthecolon,potentiallyincreasingfluidsecretionandresultinginlaxativeactivity.Emodinactsonanumberoftargetsincellularmodelsofcancer,includingp65lck,ERα,NF-κB,andmTORC2.Additionally,emodininducesapoptosisinvivothroughdisruptionofthemitochondriamembranepotential.
