Description
MatrineisanalkaloidfoundinSophorathatexhibitsanticancerchemotherapeutic,antinociceptive,anti-inflammatory,neuroprotective,anti-fibrotic,andantiepileptic/anticonvulsantactivities.MatrineincreaseslevelsofBaxanddecreaseslevelsofBcl-2andVEGF-Ainnon-smallcelllungcancer(NSCLC)andhepatomacells,inducingapoptosisandinhibitingcellgrowth.Matrinealsoinhibitsgrowthofhepatocellularcarcinomatumorsinanimalmodels.Inanimalmodelsofchemicalandthermalpain(writhingandtailflicktests),matrinedecreasespainresponseinaκ-opioidreceptor(κOR)-andμ-opioidreceptor(μOR)-dependentmanner.Additionally,matrinedownregulateslevelsofglutamateandupregulateslevelsofGABA,regulatingglutamatesignalingandinhibitinginflammationanddemyelinationinanimalmodelsofexperimentalautoimmuneencephalitis(EAE)anddecreasingseizuresinseparateanimalmodels.MatrinealsoinhibitsJAK/STATsignaling,decreasingpulmonaryfibrosisinvivo.
